  • Star pitcher, left fielder and hitter on the 1962 Charlotte Central Lions Babe Ruth 15 year old All Star team that finished 3rd in the national World Series Championship in Bridgeton, NJ. Set record for most strikeouts in Babe Ruth World Series history (33 strikeouts recorded). Made all-tournament team.

  •  Pitcher, leftfielder on the 1963 Charlotte Red Shield Colt League 16 year old All Star team that won the National Championship in Shawnee, OK. In the Colt World Series, pitched 1-hitter in opening game against Georgia. Pitched and completed 5 to 3 win in the championship game against Riverside, CA. Made all tournament team.

  • Played at Garinger High School, where he was an All-Conference and All-State selection. 

  • Pitcher, leftfielder for the 1964 Charlotte Post-9 American Legion team that finished 2nd in the American Legion “Little World Series” in Little Rock, Arkansas. Pitched complete 9 inning 3-1 loss in the championship game against Hall of Fame major league pitcher Rollie Fingers of Upland, CA. Made all tournament team.

  • Pitcher, leftfielder on 1964 Garinger High School team that finished 2nd in NC state championship to Greensboro’s Grimsley High School. Pitched the complete game 3-hitter in a 2-1 loss in the state championship game. During the year had 400+ batting average and threw a no-hitter. Made All-State 1st team.

  • Pitcher, leftfielder on the 1965 Garinger High School team that won the NC State Championship. Pitched complete game 4-1 win against Rocky Mount, HS in finals. During the year had .450+ batting average, threw 3 no-hitters including a perfect game against Harding HS. Made All-State 1st team.

  • Drafted in the 11th round of the first Major League draft in June 1965 by the Washington Senators. Turned down a substantial contract offer in favor of a full-scholarship grant-in-aid to UNC - Chapel Hill

  • Pitcher, leftfielder on 1965 Charlotte Post-9 American Legion team that won the national championship in the American Legion “Little World Series”. Pitched a complete 9-inning, 19 strikeout, 1-hitter in the championship game against Omaha, NE. Tied the single game record for strikeouts (19) in American Legion “Little World Series” history, which was set by teammate, David Lemmonds in the previous game. Made all tournament team. During the year had a 450+ batting average while hitting 4th in the line-up.

  • Played at UNC Chapel Hill, where he still holds the single season record for lowest ERA. 

  • Pitched on the 1966 UNC freshman baseball team with a record of 6 wins and 0 losses and an era of .000. Invited to play for the Alaska Gold Panners summer league college team in 1966, however, elected to attend summer school. Joined the Virginia Valley League Harrisonburg Turks in late summer of 1966 and pitched the Valley League Championship game for Harrisonburg. Pitched a complete 9-inning 2 to 0 win in the Valley League championship game.

  • Pitched on the 1967 UNC varsity team with a record of 9 wins 0 losses and an era of 0.71. The era 0.71 is the lowest era in UNC history and is a record that stands today. Garry also hit 4 homeruns as a pitcher for the UNC varsity team in 1967. Made 1st team All-ACC and selected 2nd team All-American. Selected to play for US in the Pan American games. Once again invited to play for the Alaska Gold Panners summer league team.

  • Former 1st round pick and Major League pitcher with the Atlanta Braves. Garry was chosen as the 3rd pick in the 1st round of the 1967 Major League Draft by the Atlanta Braves. He signed a bonus contract and began his professional career in the AA Texas League with the Austin Braves. Finished his first professional season with the cellar dwelling Austin Braves with a record of 6 wins and 7 losses and an era of 3.01 and the top Atlanta pitching prospect in the minor leagues.

  • In 1968 Garry missed spring training and part of the season due to active duty and basic training in the National Guard. He joined the AAA Richmond Braves in July after a brief spring training assignment with the Single A Greenwood Braves. After joining AAA Richmond he pitched a 9-inning shutout against the AAA Buffalo club and a 9-inning 3-hit 3 to 1 win against the Toledo Mud Hens before injuring his arm in his next start. He did not pitch again until spring training with the Atlanta Braves in 1969.

  • Pitched 8 innings with the 1969 Atlanta Braves in spring training without giving up an earned run. At the end of spring he was assigned to AA Shreveport Braves where he compiled a 4 and 0 record before being called to the Major Leagues by the Braves in June 5, 1969. He pitched 2 1/3 innings against the Chicago Cubs who were tied at the time with the Braves for the National League West Division title. He was assigned to AAA at beginning of July and finished the season in Richmond.

  • In 1970, Garry pitched for AA Savannah Braves. Due to the arm injury in 1968 resulting in a loss in velocity and general pitching effectiveness, the Braves asked Garry to play right field for Single A Greenwood Braves in 1971. During that year he played everyday in right field and hit clean up. After leading the league in homeruns (15) at mid-season, he was selected to the Carolina All-Star team and hit a homerun in the All-Star game against league leading Spartanburg Philles. In 1972, Garry was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals as a pitcher for AA Little Rock Arkansas Travelers where he finished his playing career.

  • Pitching Coach of the 2004 O’s 18 & under team which finished 3rd at the Perfect Game/ Baseball America World Wood Bat Championships (in 2003).

  • Pitching Coach of the 16 & under O’s team, which finished 8th at the Perfect Game/ Baseball America World Wood Bat Underclassmen Championships (2005).
